I wish I could give this book three and a half stars instead of four. For me, this book was good for reviewing topics already covered in class but it doesn't explain concepts in a way that it could stand on it's own. Many of the topics were difficult to understand without my lecture notes. What I do love about the book is that it gives you a lot of practice problems.

Also, I should mention my class is using a different version of this book but I was still able to follow along. I haven't noticed any differences between this edition and the one my professor recommended. One of my favorite college professors used this text with freshman college students to 'catch them up' through trigonometry so they could resume their studies in math. I was impressed by the systematic way this text covers the necessary material, so when I was asked to teach algebra to a group of gifted youngsters (6th-8th) we used it. I was pleased with the way the students engaged the material, and especially pleased with the way it encouraged the development of problem-solving skills. Consequently, I've continued to use it over the years, and am pleased that we can pick up used copies on Amazon!
