The previous effect already set the tone: were her choices of which cards were face-up and which were face-down evidence of her free will, or were they illusory, predestined since time immemorial?

Did destiny force her to decide which row or column to fold onto its neighbor, or were these really free choices on her part? No matter what she might have thought before the set started, when it finished with a royal flush in hearts - her favorite suit - staring face-up at her, she was stunned. There is a face up/face down mix that is under the spec's control. The folding in the Bannon routine requires a working surface that is huge and I don't think it adds to the mystery very much anyway. I think the use of six selections instead of a royal flush really strenghthens the routine. With the royal flush, the magician knows the 'target cards' from the beginning.

With six free selections, that are shuffled into the pack by the specs, it's clear that the magi knows nothing from the start. Nonetheless, the selections are the only cards reversed at the end.

So Mike Power has a legitimate question. Is the folding adds something, for me I think it takes too time to make the matrix and fold the cars.
